Abstract
Quantitative experimental results are presented on the response of a convecting fluid to periodic modulation of the imposed heat current. A theoretical model which is a generalization of the Lorenz equations is proposed to describe the results. It yields semiquantitative agreement with experiment in both linear and nonlinear regimes.Keywords
