Metabolism of Trichloroethylene in the Bovine.

Abstract
From 3 to 12 g of trichloroethylene was given orally to calves, weighing about 100 lbs., for 4 to 5 days. Analysis of the urine by a modification of the Fujiwara reaction showed about 1% of the trichloroethylene was excreted as trichloroacetic acid and from 13 to 25% as trichloroethanol (free trichloroethanol and/or conjugated as urochloralic acid). Excretion of trichloroethanol ceased quickly after feeding of trichloroethylene was stopped, but excretion of trichloroacetic acid, at reduced levels continued longer. Only traces of trichloroethylene were excreted in the urine.
