Abstract
tunnel junctions have been fabricated on " edge" surfaces of YBCO single crystals (the " edge" surface is parallel to axis and normal to or axis). The characteristics of these junctions were compared to those of -axis junctions. In addition, STM studies were carried out on -axis YBCO surfaces (studying exposed planes). We conclude from the combined results that the tunneling current in our previously studied -axis junctions is along the direction and is the result of -axis coupling. -axis Josephson coupling between a conventional superconductor and YBCO provides strong evidence for the existence of an -wave component in the YBCO order parameter.
