Abstract
On the basis of a rate equation model, it is shown that the time constant for short‐pulse energy extraction from all rotational levels in a CO2amplifier on a single P(J) or R(J) transition is larger than the rotational relaxation time by about 1/κ(J,T), where κ(J,T) is the partition fraction of the transition levels at the temperature T.Keywords
