Lipid Components of Sound and Carious Dentin

Abstract
The presence of cholesterol-esters, triglycerides, fatty-acids, cholesterol, diglycerides, monoglycerides (tentative) and various phospholipids was demonstrated in samples of sound and carious dentin. In addition, sound dentin contains inositol-phosphatide, sphingomyelin, lecithin, phosphatidyl-ethanolamine, lysocephalin and 3 unidentified phosphatides which may be polyglycerol phosphatides and/or phosphatidic-acids. Decayed material further contained phosphatidyl-serine and other phosphatides which had undergone various degrees of degradation.
