XXXVIII.The geissler discharge in argon, a re-analysis of some collector characteristics

Abstract
Analyses previously given for a cold cathode glow discharge in argon are reconsidered in the light of more recent knowledge of the properties of cold exploring electrodes. It is shown that although the information obtained in this way for the boundary region between the cathode dark space and the negative glow is not reliable, it is still possible to calculate the electron concentrations there by an application of Boltzmann's theorem. Some effects of secondary emission from the exploring electrode are discussed.
