Release of prostaglandin E2 and unidentified factors from ventilated lungs

Abstract
Prostaglandin E2 and unidentified substances were released from isolated lungs of guinea-pigs in response to inflation. If a similar release of prostaglandin occurs in vivo it may contribute to the hypotension which sometimes accompanies positive-pressure ventilation. It is even possible that the phenomenon plays a part in the normal control of blood-pressure.
