Abstract
Reaction of pyridine with 1-bromoalkanes leads to N-alkylpyridinium bromides which can be further reacted with silver dodecylsulphate to give N-alkylpyridinium dodecylsulphates in good yield. These salts are mesomorphic and their mesophases have been characterized by optical microscopy, DSC and X-ray scattering techniques. Keywords
