Abstract
A high protein, high calorie, high vit. diet was administered in liquid form to a series of 9 postoperative surgical patients. N retention was uniformly good, averaging over 1/3 the intake in some subjects. Protein regeneration was most marked in those tissues where there was the greatest competition for the available amino acids. Blood studies revealed the repression of Hb formation even to the extent of its loss in cases where acute infection was present. This type of liquid diet could be employed to advantage in many cases where more expensive methods of N intake are contemplated. This publication has 8 references indexed in Scilit:
