Polycyclic fluoro-aromatic compounds. Part 7. Nucleophilic replacement in decafluoropyrene

Abstract
Decafluoropyrene reacts with sodium methoxide with replacement of the fluorine atom at position 1, and then those at 3, 6, and 8. This has been proved by n.m.r. spectroscopy and by chemical means, and is rationalized by a recently published modification of the Iπ repulsion theory.
