Abstract
The repulsive potential between two normal helium atoms is calculated using the LCAO MO method. The main idea is that we use two different charges for σg and σu orbitals, dropping the restriction of a common charge for the both orbitals. It is found that remarkable improvements are achieved for the theoretical calculation but there still remains a large discrepancy between theory and experiment. A critical discussion of the present status of theoretical calculations is attempted in some detail.
