On the reliability of semiempirical pseudopotentials: the Ar VIII spectrum

Abstract

For Ar VIII there is a discrepancy between experimental results and recent calculations with semiempirical pseudopotentials by Preuss et al. (1981). The authors show that the error is most probably on the experimental side.
