SINGLE PEPTIDE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN γ-GLOBULINS OF DIFFERENT GENETIC (Gm) TYPES

Abstract
Fingerprint analyses of the F fragments and A chains of 22 subjects at different Gm types have demonstrated the presence of a peptide spot in (a+) subjects which cannot be seen in (a-) proteins, and another spot in (b+) proteins which is lacking in (b-) subjects. Other minor variations were occasionally seen, but did not correlate with the Gm (a, b, or x) type. The findings suggest that these differences reside in a single amino acid substitution reflecting a change in a single base pair.
