Effects of Ethyl Alcohol on Avoidance Behavior

Abstract
Three albino rats, trained to avoid electric shock, were stomach-loaded with from 1 to 5 ml of 32-percent aqueous solution of ethyl alcohol prior to the experimental session. Small doses produced some increases in responserates and a consistent decline in shocks received. Larger doses produced progressive uncoordination, accompanied by lower response rates and an increase in shocks received.
