Abstract
D. bearcreekensis is descr. from the American Paleocene (Montana), and is the oldest cicada yet known. The wrongly placed or doubtful records of cicadas are discussed. Hylaeoneura lignei from the Cretaceous cannot seriously be regarded as a definite record for the fossil Cicadidae. Formulae are present which allow estimation of the relative dimensions of certain missing portions of fossil Cicadidae, and afford a means for the association of non-comparable fragments. The fore wing ascribed by Cockerell to Cicada grandiosa is descr. and figured, and the data available for the 13 known fossil Cicadidae, representing 10 spp., are reviewed.
