The Mechanical Transmission and some Properties of Potato Paracrinkle Virus

Abstract
This virus has interest in connection with Darlington''s theories of the relationships with plasmagenes. Contrary to previous findings it is here shown to be transmissible from King Edward potatoes to Arran Victory by abrasives. Tomato plants were also infected but showed no symptoms. In this case 10 m[mu] particles were identified without abrasives having been used, which were heat resistant up to 60[degree]; their chemical nature is uncertain. It is claimed that there is no evidence that the virus is intrinsic to King Edward potatoes nor that the virus is a modification of any constituent of normal potatoes. Attempts to produce disease-free King Edward potatoes were unsuccessful.
