A Third Rydberg Series ofN2

Abstract

A third series of Rydberg bands, converging to the ${}_{}{}^2{}_{}{}^{}\Pi$ state of ${\mathrm{N}}_2^{+}$, has been identified in the far ultraviolet absorption spectrum of nitrogen. Its interpretation substantiates an assignment of vibrational numbers for the ${}_{}{}^2{}_{}{}^{}\Pi$ state, and indicates that this state is derived from the $o$ state of ${\mathrm{N}}_2$.
