Carbonylation of the η3-vinylcarbene ligand. Synthesis and X-ray crystal and molecular structure of an ‘(η4-vinylketen)’ iron complex

Abstract

In the reaction of (η³-vinylcarbene)Fe(CO)₃ with triphenylphosphine or carbon monoxide (L), the η³-vinylcarbene ligand was carbonylated affording an apparent ‘η⁴-vinylketen complex,’ which was shown by X-ray analysis to have the alternative (η³-allyl +η¹-acyl)Fe^II(CO)₂L structure.
