Mobilities and Reaction Rates of Neon Ions in Neon

Abstract
The mobilities of Ne+ and Ne2+ ions in neon have been measured at 300°K. The mobilities of Ne+ and Ne2+ at low Ep0 are given by the equations K(Ne+)=4.07[1+8.0×103(Ep0)2+2.0×106(Ep0)4]18 and K(Ne2+)=6.14{[1+8.3×103(Ep0)2][1+2.0×103(Ep0)2+8.4×106(Ep0)4]}14, with Ep0 in V/cm Torr. The Ne+ was observed to convert to Ne2+ by a three-body reaction with a rate coefficient ranging from about 7×1032 cm6/sec at Ep0=2.0 V/cm Torr to about 5×1032 cm6/sec at Ep0=6.0 V/cm Torr.
