Negative (Eccentric) Work. II. Physiological Responses to Walking Uphill and Downhill on a Motor-Driven Treadmill

Abstract
A comparison has been made between walking uphill (+ W) and downhill (-W) for 1 hr on a motor-driven treadmill on 7 healthy male subjects aged 21-41 years. Measurements included: oxygen intake ([Vdot]O2) and CO2 output ([Vdot]CO2). minute ventilation ([Vdot]E), tidal volume ([Vdot]T), mixed venous (P[vtilde]CO2) and alveolar (PACO2)PCO2, cardiac output ([Qdot]) and frequency (fH), tympanic temperature (Tty) sweat rate (S) and blood lactic acid (LA) concentration.
