Photoemission study of the Co/Pt(100) interface

Abstract
We analyze by use of synchrotron-radiation-induced photoemission the growth of ultrathin cobalt layers deposited at room temperature on platinum (100) surfaces and we show the role of heat treatments on the CoPt alloy formation. Decomposition of the Pt 4f7/2 photoemission line shows structures characteristic of the various environments of platinum atoms. We also describe briefly the evolution of the Co 3s and Pt 5s lines. We observe energy shifts that might give some insights about the interface magnetism of this particular system.
