Abstract
The present paper is concerned with the analysis of the large elastoplastic deflection of a simply supported plate subjected to a uniform load. The analysis is performed under the assumptions of von Mises’ yield condition, Hencky’s stress-strain relation, and nonhardening of the material. The corresponding experiment is also made with a mild steel specimen to ascertain the appropriateness of the assumptions and the procedure of the analysis. Results of the analysis are compared with the available analytical results based on the limit analysis or the theory neglecting the effects of membrane force as well as with experimental data. Also discussed is the physical validity of the deformation theory used in the present analysis.
