Cloxacillin in the Prophylaxis of Postoperative Infections of the Hip

Abstract
In two widely separated hospitals a double-blind study of 171 hip operations was done, one group of patients receiving prophylactic cloxacillin, the other receiving a placebo. The first group had no postoperative infections, while the second had twelve (in eighty-eight patients). All of the patients had major surgery to the hip, and ten of the twelve infections were staphylococcal.
