Abstract
The ceramic superconductor La1.85Sr0.15CuO4 (Tc=36 K) is tetragonal (I4/mmm, a=3.7748(1) AA; c=13.2213(3) AA) at room temperature but below 180 K an orthorhombic distortion is found, which increases smoothly down to 30 K (a=5.3432(1) AA, b=5.3193(1) AA, c=13.1785(3) AA), decreasing again at 22 K. There is no detectable anomaly in the evolution of the structure with temperature in the vicinity of Tc.Keywords
