Apparent Free Histidine Plasma and Urine Values in Rheumatoid Arthritis Treated with Cortisone and ACTH.

Abstract
Apparent free histidine of blood plasma and urine was measured in 15 patients with rheumatoid arthritis before and during treatment with adrenocorticotrophic hormone (ACTH) or 17-hydroxy-11-dehydrocorticosterone (Cortisone). During treatment with either of these hormones, there was a striking increase in urinary excretion of apparent free histidine. Plasma levels were not significantly altered during the avg. treatment period, but the maximum value reached during treatment showed a significant increase when compared with the highest control values.
