Abstract
Three UV-absorbing fractions with cytokinin activity were isolated from liquid cultures of C. fascians, a pathogen which causes abnormal development in plants. The fractions were identified as 6-( [gamma], [gamma]-dimethylallylamino) purine, nicotinamide and 6-methyl-aminopurine. The 1st fraction accounts for most of the biological activity, but these yields represent only 5-10% of the estimated total activity in the cultures. The contribution of the other 2 fractions which is minor by comparison and is due in large part to impurities. Synthetic 3-methylaminopurine has a lower specific activity than the isolated fraction, and nicotinamide is inactive. This publication has 2 references indexed in Scilit:
