Studies in the bile acids. 3. The conjugated bile salts of certain primates

Abstract
A series of 8 primate-bile-salt specimens was analyzed.. The method combined a countercurrent procedure, which separated glycine and taurine conjugates, and chromatography controlled by infrared spectro-scopy. Within experimental error, the glycine-conjugated and taurine-conjugated fractions contained the same bile acids in similar proportions. The major constitutent acids in all the bile samples were chenodeoxycholic acid (3[alpha],7[alpha]-dihydroxycholanicacid), deoxycholic acid (3[alpha], 12[alpha]-dihydroxycholanic acid) and cholic acid (3 [alpha],7[alpha],12[alpha]-trihydroxy-cholanic acid). Only in human bile does cheondeoxycholic acid occur as more than 30% of the total acids.
