Effect of Diphenylhydantion on Peripheral Nerve

Abstract
The foot pad of a rabbit was stimulated and recordings were made from the posterior tibial nerve which had been dissected out Systemically administered Dilantin produced: An increase of the threshold of peripheral nerve to electrical stimulation of end organs or nerve endings: A dimunition in spike amplitude even to supramaximal stimulation; with intravenous administration, a transient central excitation; a prolonged synaptic delay and/or conduction time; reversal of the enhanced excitability of oxalated nerve; and abolition of the "rebound" spike induced by long duration currents.
