The Nuclear Spins and Quadrupole Moments of Stable Germanium Isotopes

Abstract

Analysis of the hyperfine structure of spectral lines arising from the $J=0\mathrm{}\to 1$ rotational transition of Ge${\mathrm{H}}_3$Cl allows the assignment of zero spin to the nuclei of ${\mathrm{Ge}}^{70}$, ${\mathrm{Ge}}^{72}$, ${\mathrm{Ge}}^{74}$, and ${\mathrm{Ge}}^{76}$, and a spin of 9/2 to ${\mathrm{Ge}}^{73}$. The nuclear quadrupole moment of ${\mathrm{Ge}}^{73}$ is determined to be (-0.2±0.1) × ${10}^{-24\mathrm{}}$ ${\mathrm{cm}}^2$.
