A simple technique for counting milligram samples of protein labelled with 14C or 35S

Abstract

By combining a gas-flow counter, a thin sample film technique and a compact scaler-E.H.T.-timer unit, a counting apparatus was designed with which S35 activity of the order of 10-11C in 5 mg of tissue could be measured. The equipment is simple to operate and maintain and was used for needle biopsy specimens of liver in the study of protein-malnourished children in Jamaica with S35 as tracer element.
