Abstract
The distribution of a trace of an element between an aqueous solution of its salt and a mercury cathode may be considered to be a special example of solvent extraction in which the distribution is a function not only of the volume of the liquids but also of the cathode potential. If the deposition behavior differs from that predicted from polarographic studies, the deviations provide fundamental information about the reaction.
