Biochemistry of locusts. 6. The occurrence of a flavin in the eggs and of a pterin in the eyes of the African migratory locust (Locusta migratoria migratorioides R. & F.) and the desert locust (Schistocerca gregaria Forsk.)

Abstract

The presence of a flavin, almost certainly riboflavin, was observed in the newly laid eggs of the African migratory locust and of the desert locust. The yellow fluorescent pigment occurring in the eyes of both species was identified as a pterin; it closely resembles xanthopterin.
