UTILIZATION OF CARBOHYDRATES BY STRAINS OF STREPTOMYCES GRISEUS

Abstract
Carbohydrate utilization by related strains of S. griseus derived from the Waksman culture no. 4 varies from that by the parent culture when the organisms are grown on synthetic media or media containing soybean meal. These observations show that care must be used in interpreting carbohydrate utilization tests as aids in differentiating spp. of the genus Streptomyces, and that these tests may be used to differentiate strains of S. griseus.
