Activity of Enzymes Related to Neurotransmission in Neuronal and Glial Fractions

Abstract
The activity of DDC, MAO, ChAc, ChE and AChE was determined in the neuronal, glial and processes fraction isolated from rat brain cortex. The specific activity of DDC was highest in the glial fraction while the specific activity of MAO, ChAc, ChE and AChE was rather evenly distributed in the cell fractions. The results indicate that using the present technique for the bulk isolation of neurons and glia, none of the above enzymes can be localized in one cell fraction only. The results are interpreted as suggesting the presence of DDC, MAO and AChE in glial and neuronal cells.
