Slow Neutron Velocity Spectrometer Studies. II. Au, In, Ta, W, Pt, Zr

Abstract
The slow neutron velocity spectrum of Au, In, Ta, W, Pt, and Zr have been investigated. The results for Au and In check the values previously obtained using the "old" system. The results for the gold level at (4.8±0.1)ev with σ0Γ2=600, and for the main indium level at (1.44±0.02) ev with σ0Γ2=210 agree with the earlier results. Additional indium levels were found at (3.8±0.2) ev with σ0Γ120 and at (8.6±0.4) ev with σ0Γ300. The cross-section curve for Ta below 1 ev is well matched by σ=[(7.2±0.4)+(3.0±0.1)E12. Tantalum has levels at (4.1±0.1) ev with σ0Γ244, at (10.0±0.3) ev with σ0Γ225, at (13±0.5) ev with σ0Γ23, at (22±2) ev with σ0Γ218, at (37±3) ev with σ0Γ2400, and other dips probably indicating multiple strong levels near 100 ev, 300 ev, and at higher energies. The cross section curve for W below 1 ev is well matched by σ=[(5.7±0.2)+(2.72±0.05)E12]. There are levels at (4.0±0.1) ev with σ0Γ213, at (7.4±0.2) ev with σ0Γ25, at (18.0±0.5) ev with σ0Γ23000 (perhaps multiple), at (45±2) ev with σ0Γ2400 (perhaps multiple), at (180±20) ev with σ0Γ210,000 if single (probably multiple), and a dip at 1100 ev which is probably multiple. The results for Pt show pronounced crystal interference effects in the thermal region. The 1v line is probably σ=[(12.0±0.3)+(1.03±0.06)E12]. There are levels at (11.5±0.4) ev with σ0Γ255, at (18.2±1) ev with σ0Γ230, and broad dips near 100 ev and near 1000 ev indicating the presence of several strong unresolved levels. The results for Zr below 0.6 ev are well matched by σ=[(6.8±0.3)+(0.74±0.10)E12]. There are weak levels at (1.09±0.03) ev with σ0Γ5 and at (2.30±0.07) ev with σ0Γ8. A complex dip near 7 ev probably consists of two levels at E0=(5.7±0.5) ev with σ0Γ10 and at (7.6±0.4) ev with σ0Γ240.
