Abstract
Eigenfunctions of L2, S2, J2, and Jz have been obtained for the (sp) 3P multiplet. Matrix elements of the linear electron‐lattice interaction show how only Γ12 and Γ′25phonons relax selection rules to permit electric dipole transitions to 3P0 and 3P2 states. It is suggested that the 3P0 state may play a significant role in both absorption and emission processes for mercury‐like impurities in alkali halides. This publication has 6 references indexed in Scilit:
