Abstract
A graphite filament method has been used to improve the emission efficiency of U+ ions in the surface ionization from the single filament source of a mass spectrometer. The graphite filament serves as a raw material for the formation of uranium dicarbide samples and as an ionization surface in place of metallic ones. The intensity of U+ ions emitted from uranium dicarbide on the graphite filament is much greater than that of UO2+ ions from the oxide sample on tungsten, and the emission is very stable for a long period. The reason for this intense and stable emission is discussed. Keywords
