Hindered Rotation in Halogenated Ethanes

Abstract
If it is assumed on the basis of available evidence that the ``staggered'' form of the molecule is more stable than the ``eclipsed'' one, then the eight haloethanes investigated by means of the Raman effect show the following number of forms: CCl3CF3 and CCl3CHFCl one form (13 and 18 lines); CF2ClCF2Cl, CF2BrCF2Br, CF2ClCF2H and CF2ClCFCl2 two forms (23, 22, 21 and 24 lines) and CF2ClCHFCl and CF2BrCFClBr three forms (29 and 28 lines). These forms are considered to be distinct rotational isomers.
