Abstract
The banana orbits of high-energy trapped particles in tokamaks are found to diffuse rapidly in the radial direction if the toroidal ripple exceeds a low critical value. During this diffusion the energy, the magnetic moment, and the value of the magnetic field strength at the banana tips are conserved. Keywords
