Crystallographic analysis of adeno-virus type 5 crystalline patterns within KB cell nuclei revealed that the crystals belonged to the face centered cubic system, with four asymmetric units (viz. four virions) per unit cell. From the crystallographic data thus obtained, a three-dimensional model was reconstructed, from which a plausible mechanism for capsid interactions was inferred.
