ENZYME FORMATION IN LYSOZYME LYSATE OF BACILUS SUBTILIS

Abstract
Protoplasts which are capable of forming amylase, have been stabilized and activated by the addition of polyvinyl sulfate (a ribonuclease inhibitor) and of protease inhibitor prepared from potato extract. Protoplasts prepared by action of lysozyme have approximately the same amylase-producing and glucose-oxidizing activities as intact cells; protoplasts actively incorporate C14-glycine into protein as well as nucleic acids; the C14 is attached to the cell residue (precipitated at 900 x g, 15 minutes), which is gram-negative and stained by Alican Blue 8GN in electronmicrographs.
