Observation of Librational Waves in the Ordered State of Solid Hydrogen and Deuterium by Raman Scattering

Abstract
The Raman spectra of high purity o-H2 and p-D2 at liquid-helium temperatures have been obtained. Features which appear below the ordering temperature are attributed to librational waves within the J=1 manifold of states. On the basis of a comparison with recent theories of the ordered state, a new structure is proposed.
