Effect of EDTA on Controlling Nucleation and Morphology in the Synthesis of Ultrafine Y[sub 2]O[sub 3]:Eu Phosphors

Abstract
Methodology using ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) to control phosphor size with a diameter down to and a volume of of commercial powders has been developed. These powders still show luminescence and efficiency around 60% of the larger standard materials. Larger particles comprised of crystallites show 90% of the luminescence of the standard materials. The implications of these findings are discussed. ©2000 The Electrochemical Society
