On the Occurrence of a Fluorescing Polyene with a Characteristic Spectrum

Abstract
A vegt. compd., first obtained from certain flowers and widespread in nature, was found to be a polyene from the nature of its spectrum, from the + Carr-Price reaction and from its behavior toward L. It has an intense, greenish fluorescence in hexane or alcohol soln. in which it possesses a characteristic spectral curve. In hexane 3 maxima appear at 367, 348 and 332 m[mu]. In alcohol the extinction curve is similar with maxima at 368, 349 and 332-3 m[mu]. The highest maximum is about 20 m[mu] longer than that of vit. A and only a few mu difft. from that of vit. A2. Its extinction curve is very similar to that of anhydro vit. A and "iso-anhydro vit. A.".
