Tempo Change during Body Rocking

Abstract

Occasional tempo change during spontaneous body rocking was described in 2 institutionalized mentally retarded children. Both acceleration and deceleration in moment-to-moment rate of body rocking were demonstrated under constant environmental conditions. The findings were discussed in relation to the automatism hypothesis of stereotyped behavior.
