An abrupt method of terminating prescriptions for amphetamines was accepted by most patients who were given an adequate explanation for this. It is unlikely that arresting the prescribing of amphetamines will affect the behaviour of dependent patients, and the effect of voluntary limitations on prescribing are more likely to be felt in the long term.
