ORGANISMS ASSOCIATED WITH SEPTICEMIA IN THE HONEYBEE, APIS MELLIFERA

Abstract
Five of seven bacterial cultures received in this laboratory as Bacillus apisepticus and Bacillus sphingidis and producing a fatal septicemia in honeybees have been shown upon morphological and cultural examination to belong more properly to the family Pseudomonaceae, genus Psctidomonas. It is suggested that such organisms now be regarded as Pseudomonas apiseptica (Burnside), rather than Bacillus apiseplicus as originally proposed. The status of the two remaining cultures representing a single Aeromonas species requires additional investigation.
