Abstract
A theoretical model on the evolution and ecology of pollination biology in plants was proposed and explained based on the concept that plants are gene donors and gene receivers and that these 2 activities are not necessarily complementary, compatible or directed toward the same end. Not all pollen donors and receivers are of equal status in seed reproductive potential. Plants are not trying to maximize outcrossings but rather to optimize them. In doing so, they perform courtship displays, "rape" and tend toward promiscuity and fickleness as do animals. Applying these premises to the fields of plant genetics and reproduction forms the basis of the model.
