At Teesside Polytechnic last October a very successful one-day meeting on surface topography in tribology was held by the recently formed Tribology Group of The Institute of Physics. Invited papers were presented on adhesion, on the tribology of thin films, and on wear and scuffing problems in internal combustion engines and other engineering components.
