Dissociative Ionization ofH2andD2

Abstract

Energy distributions of ${\mathrm{H}}^{+}$ (${\mathrm{D}}^{+}$) from dissociative ionization of ${\mathrm{H}}_2$ (${\mathrm{D}}_2$) are reported. Evidence of the $2p{\sigma }_u$ state's being the major source of energetic ions is cited. Calculated and measured energy distributions do not agree well. Possible explanations are suggested.
